Ignoring the other girl’s protests, she takes Robin’s hand in both of hers, angling her head so the light shines directly on her wrist. She pulls the skin slightly, twisting and tugging at it, careful not to hurt the blonde, until the tiny line reveals itself. It’s fresh-- that much she knows for sure. Part of River lights up at the prospect of finding something remotely useful in her quest; another part of her cringes at the sight of the scar.
Dropping Robin’s wrist, she moves over to Kinkade and repeats what she just did on him, twisting his flesh until she sees an almost identical mark. She spits the small flashlight out into her palm and hides it back in her hoodie pocket.
“Come with me. And be silent. Perfectly silent.” Without waiting for an affirmative nod or anything of the sort, she opens the door, biting her lip as it squeaks, and steps out into the hallway, the floor cool on her bare feet.

What? Why? What did you see? Why are we leaving? Do we really have to walk there? Will someone please tell me what's going on? Why are you being so mysterious?! Of course, Robin didn't say any of these things, due to River's last statement, instead scowling and thinking these things as loudly as she could in her head. Too bad River wasn't an empath though... Pulling Kin by the shoulder, who stared silently on in a daze, Robin slipped through the doorway after River-- barefeet padding silently on the wood of the hallways.
Slipping her hand into her pocket, Robin's fingers curl around each three knicknacks once, comforted by their touch. Smooth, damp, round. Warm, familer, foiled. Long, spindly, bundle. These were tokens of my adventure, Robin thought dimly, randomly feeling a surge of comfort, even a slight happiness, if you could call it that. She wondered how many more 'tokens' she would aquire before the day, week, 'adventure', was over.

KINKADE personal pronouns are the death of me see, i just said me. you're an endless sea of vanities.
Kinkade had walked along silently, passively, even emotionless, up until he caught onto Robin's sudden happy emotions. They seemed so out of place... But, they made him smile, his eyes brightening. That was it!
"There you go! Now, stay that way, okay?
"Kinkade insisted, suddenly wrapping his arms around his companion from behind. He knew he should have done that before, when she'd been upset, so he was making up for it. He let go quickly though, not wanting to hinder her walking or make her uncomfortable. Then it hit him. They were wandering down a dark hallway in the girl's dorms. It was so late everyone would likely be sleeping, or at the very least, shut in their rooms and left to their own devices. That was why everyone was so quiet. Well. He quieted, but he kept grinning as he walked, seeming much more lively than before. If he wasn't in silent mode, he would have asked where they were going. But he figured, considering the silence thing, he could wait and be surprised.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Hearing Kin’s words, River turns and shoots him a particularly nasty glare, though her emotions don’t reflect her expression at all. Inside, she’s going through everything she learned in about a week of tagging along at her brother’s medical school, but it doesn’t seem to apply to the situation. She learned about… Wait for it… ALLERGIES! Not he most useful of things to learn.
Anyway, the three of them quickly reach the infirmary. River stops and presses one hand against a wall to quell her nausea at the sharp smell of antiseptic. She has to keep going. She has to save her friends from whatever is messing with them. It’s obviously effecting Kins more, but she knows it’s the same thing in Robin.
She peers around the corner, then steps into the empty hospital, looking around for the blood testing machine she so desperately needs.

"Meep!" Robin squeaked, feeling Kin's arms wrap around her neck. She wasn't a particularly big fan of hugs, but Kin's intentions where good-- so for once it didn't feel like the person was trying to strangle her. Then River turned around and glared at them, and it took all of Robin's mental strength not to smile. Aw, River-- you can't fool an empath.
Then, they entered the infirmary. Noting the instant mood-change within all of them, Robin shivered, weren't they just here, like an hour ago? River nervous, Kin still strangely vacant, and herself... It was hard to not still be in a good mood after River's glare. Yet why was it dead silent? Nervously, Robin opened her senses to the world, finding it still unnaturally quiet in this sector of the school. Well, whole school, really. Was it a trap? Robin doubted it. Had everyone simply left for home? Robin doubted that too.

Kinkade offered a sheepish grin at her glare. But like Robin, he came to the conclusion that she wasn't really mad. So, it was fine by him if she wanted to pretend.
And, again, Kinkade was thinking exactly what Robin was. Not about it being quiet or odd, just that they'd just came from here. In fact, they'd just escaped from here to go see River because this was a bad place to be, and the two needed help. So why did she bring them back?
"River. We just came from here. This isn't a safe place for us, or for you, either. Let's turn back, okay? Maybe... Maybe we can come back during the day? What are we even doing in here?
"Kin prompted. Oddly, he wasn't really bothered by the infirmary itself, he was just bothered by the way it made Robin feel. The way she'd been so nervous, so suspicious chilled him. He didn't want her to go through that again. But here they were.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

She shakes her head no, resisting the urge to snarl at him. Don’t they know how hard it is for her to be here? She hasn’t even so much as looked at a band-aid since she escaped the School, and now she’s risking her sanity to make him better. River thought that two empaths would pick up on that. In a hoarse whisper, she says, “It has to be tonight. The longer we wait, the more likely it is that I won’t be able to cure you. Besides, no one will be here at 3 AM. If there’s doctors here, I don’t have free reign.” Or the strength to walk in here, she almost adds.
There! The machine, blinking steadily, thankfully already running. “Get over here.” she hisses, poking her head out of the room and gesturing to the two of them to come, and quickly. There isn’t much time.

Something, something about the colors. The patterns and typical voices in her head: too quiet, too repetitive, too shiny. Robin simply stood there, in the middle of the floor, eyes closed and head tilted to the side, listening intently in her mind to give her the answer. Something was off--
"...over here."
It's River's voice that brings Robin back to reality. Right. They were on a mission, no time for contemplating the meaning of the shiny colors. Quietly, Robin dragged herself over to the machine reluctantly, still peering around the metaphorical corners in her mind, what was it? Suddenly dropping her own fascinating topic, Robin became acutely aware of River's nervousness, anxiety, and flashing memories. Guiltily, Robin opened her mouth to ask if River was alright, but stopped herself. Of course River wasn't alright. It must be terrible even to set a foot near this place-- but now, like the brunette had said, was not a good time to waste.

Kinkade knew about River's past, and he was completely capable of sensing her emotions, but he remained oblivious to the problem she was facing. In fact, he was a bit surprised by her. Why was she so negative? He obeyed her order anyway, following behind Robin into the room. Once inside, his eyes scanned it curiously before falling on the blinking machine. Thankfully, he resists the urge to ask what it is. After all, he trusts River, even if she is a bit grumpy right now.
"Jeeze, it's cold.
"Kinkade suddenly pointed out. Maybe it's just him, though. Whatever the case, he rubs at his arms, trying to warm them up. He should have worn longer sleeves, darn it all. Or, maybe... Maybe there was more to it. Slowly he was picking up on the quietness's ominous undertone. There was something off here. It was probably just the girl's emotions influencing him, but when two people were getting the same idea, he would be a fool to disregard it. Whatever River was doing, he was beginning to hope she'd hurry it along.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

River takes a deep breath, as if it’s her blood about to be put into a machine and tested. “Alright, guys. I need… You’re going to… This machine tests blood. So, basically, that means I need some of your blood. Just a drop, from the tip of your finger or something. I’m sorry. I don’t know any other way to do this.”
She looks at them apologetically, hoping they’ll see that she really is sorry that she has to do this. But it’s the only way to make them get better. She crosses the room and carefully picks up a scalpel and two Petri dishes, ignoring her instincts to drop the thing and run. Every muscle in her body is tensed to the breaking point, her mind racing at a million miles a minute. She walks back over to them, her inner struggle now clearly evident on her face. Every second she holds the small knife is another second of agony.
“Trust me. Please. Hold your hands out.” she gasps.

What? Seriously? Robin bit her bottom lip, eying the edge of the pin-sharp knife nervously. Worse off, River's fearful memories was nearly overpowering. Okay, okay. Just... Do it. The sooner you do it, the sooner it's over. Grimacing, Robin stuck her palm out toward River and the scalpel, and tilted her head in a random direction away from the knife, suddenly becoming extremely interested in the window curtains. Exhaling deeply, Robin still didn't quite expect it when the knife cut into the middle of her palm-- but didn't make a sound as the pain jolted up her arm.
The things we do...

Now it was abundantly clear that River was unhappy. Now, now he was worried. Now he wanted nothing more than to comfort her. He should have realized earlier; what she'd told him... How could he not anticipate this? So as she told him to give her his hand, he did as she asked, his eyes never leaving her.
The only scary part about it was that she was so nervous that he was afraid she'd cut deeper than she needed to or something of that nature. Nothing more. Surely it wouldn't hurt that badly. He felt somehow responsible, though, to get the two girls out of here quickly. Yes. He would, before either of them lost their minds.

She holds the small dish under Robin’s hand and catches the two drops of blood, then stuffs a piece of gauze into her hand, closing her fingers around it. The scalpel gets quickly washed in rubbing alcohol and then River makes the tiniest cut on Kin’s hand, and collects his blood in the other dish. She slides the two samples into the gently whirring machine and pushes the start button, handing a piece of gauze to Kinkade as well. She rinses the scalpel and then sets it down, careful to put it in exactly the same place as before.
“I’m so sorry.” she whispers, then turns back to the monitor of the blood tester, already done examining the drops of blood. Both samples show the same foreign substances-- one a regular sleeping pill; one to shut down motor functions, thought, and senses; and one to halt their powers. But none of those should have this effect on them, and anyway, it would have worn off by now. The substances were in miniscule amounts, so small that without the fancy technology they would have gone unnoticed. River frowns, removes the blood samples, and puts the Petri dishes back.
“Follow me.” This time, she leads them to an x-ray scanner that she had found while searching for the blood scanner. She turns on the large computer screen and flicks the switch on the x-ray machine itself.

"What's to be sorry about?" Robin asked softly, turning her head to look back at River. "You did what you had to do." River's thoughts were troubled, complicated, and thoughtful now-- oh no. Out of sheer chance, a single word had broken through Robin's counciousness. X-Ray.
Oh, great. This is where the fun begins.
Robin hesitated to follow River. Whatever laid after this test was going to be very, painful. Robin had gotten her wrist set before, after she broken it falling out of a tree. (The sheer horror!) Her father, as she had only been eight at the time, had to hold the withering girl down to get her to even take the painkillers. Let's just say, after Robin unleashed the power of her tiny sharp teeth, it had gone downhill from there. (AN: True story. :3)
Slowly, she followed River across the room, willing the machine to somehow break. She was certainly fine with letting the ankle heal without the help of a cast, thank you very much. Blue eyes followed River's fingers as the flicked a few switches and pressed a few buttons, the machine whirring to life,

X-ray? Common procedure. Blood being tested in that way? Not so much. Or, that is to say, Kinkade never saw what the doctors did with the vials of blood they drew. The x-ray machine as it began it's familiar noises was met by a smile, a sort of, 'hey, old friend', look. This he could handle. He pressed the gauze into his hand tighter, wanting to be able to pull it off sooner, and waited patiently for River to let them know she was ready for them.
Honestly, Kin wasn't certain as to what she wanted to x-ray. Probably his chest, he would guess, since that's what hurt the worse. Didn't it always, though? Of course it did, because he was him. It was a bit amusing; an empath with a bad heart. The irony of that! Why she needed an x-ray, though, he couldn't fathom. She wasn't a doctor! She was even younger than he. Surely she had no more expertise than him. So why? He didn't ask aloud.
