ALEX FIELDINGS Conjunction junction, What’s your function? Hooking up words And phrases and clauses. “I choose to think that we are the odd ones. Where’s the fun in being normal?” She had tried being normal all through normal grade school-- the newest clothes, parties every weekend, sleepovers full of giggling girls and chips and soda and pillow-fights. After a while, though, she had realized that this was not the way she wanted to be living. So, when she got to Alexandria, she changed her persona. She became the person she wanted to be-- staying up all night reading Shakespeare by flashlight, exploring the secret passageways of the school, and generally causing trouble. People liked her for it. People liked her for her. And she couldn’t get enough of it.
Oh, he’s right. The Christmas lights are some of the best parts of the season. So beautiful and twinkly… Alex had gone every year she’d been teaching, but had always felt that little twinge of loneliness. And now he’s offering to go with her to see them. She flashes a quick grin. “I’d love to.”

They say time’s a healer but my watch can’t tell the time The left hand’s stuck six months ago and I can’t find the right I don’t know anything
She has a point- if life were so kind as to make those like them normal in human society, then odds are he would have never been flown out to the states for four years, and never would have met this quirky, mischievous redhead that had stolen his heart away. If superhumanity was the norm, then there would have more than likely been a special school for the non-gifted here in South Carolina, not for them- he would have never left Australia, would never have done so many things, would not have been him. That person would have been someone else named Lionel Randall, not him.
He doesn't believe his ears. Rewind, replay. "I'd love to." Rewind, replay. "I'd love to." He suddenly feels lighter than air, as if Alexandra had changed the gravity under his feet. "G-great!" he managed to get out- his mouth felt heavy compared to the rest of his body, like lead. "It'll be really nice."

“So, Doctor Lionel Randall,” she begins, using his full title in a playful sort of way, “now what?”
She can’t just sit around doing nothing. She has to be doing something, whether that something is reading, teaching, baking, or causing mayhem.

What now? Damn, she wasn't supposed to ask that. Half of him wanted to bolt for the door, he had already had is bit of beautiful glorious luck for the day, no sense tempting fate, but then again he didn't want to let that beautiful woman out of his site, not for as long as he could. He stuttered out "Er, um..." before running out of fodder for his mouth, and just kinda stared dumbly.
Then his phone buzzed. He frowned, pulling his phone out of his pocket. Not too many people texted him, he was notorious for ignoring them until later, but this time he looked at the message promptly.
Finished with the lab for the week. Smells a bit like dead fish, but shouldn't affect your stuff. Knock yourself out. -Grosser.
He fist-pumped- this was early, it was only Tuesday, he usually didn't get the lab until Thursday at best. This was good. He looked up at Alexandra, excitement shining in his eyes.
"Now," he began, grabbing her hand and dragging her out the door, "I show you my life's work."

ALEX FIELDINGS Conjunction junction, What’s your function? Hooking up words And phrases and clauses. In the blink of an eye, the awkward Lionel seems to gain confidence. A lot of confidence. His hand curls around hers, and, before she’s fully aware what’s going on, he pulls her out of her room.
Alex laughs as she stumbles after him. This should be interesting, to say the least. His life’s work? She knows he’s an aspiring scientist, so they’re probably headed to the lab, but… Eh, whatever. Just go with the flow, Alexandra. Go with the flow.
